Neck Threadworm

Neck threadworms have an intermediate host, the biting midge.

Size/appearance

The worm is long and slender. Males about 6cm and females up to 30cm in length.

Location in horse

Found in the skin of the horse, particularly around the forelegs and neck.

Symptoms

Symptoms include occasional skin irritation and also painless swelling of the tendons and ligaments.
